Values and Mission

In order for an organization to take on the challenge of change, organizations need to include vital components that include environmental factors must be in place to facilitate the processes involved. What is needed to begin the implementation of change is an underpinning bedrock of shared values and a vision of the outcomes of the change. In the case of implementing a blended learning environment, Maskal, Dziuban and Hartman (2012) impress the importance of alignment; “Whatever the motivation to blend, it is clear that the strategy works best when clearly aligned with the institution’s mission and goals and the needs of students, faculty, and the institution are simultaneously addressed” (Maskal, Dziuban & Hartman, 2012, p.6). They go on to state that change must be led, but must be in concert with other stakeholders; “The institution’s senior executives must play a key role in formulation goals and objectives for blended learning, as is their right and responsibility. But those goals cannot be the exclusive purview of senior leadership. The faculty must also have a stack in the initiative and its success” (Maskal, Dziuban & Hartman, 2012, p.16). The values, vision, and needs (as defined by the data) are all required to be in sync for success to follow.
