Some of my favourite online coding resources for kids and teens

  • Code.org Age 4+

    This site offers a guided paths to learning code. Kids learn different coding concepts in each course. There are also a bunch of great introductory 'Hour of Code' coures. Totally free, with no ads.

  • Scratch Jr. Age 4-6

    Free app for all Tablets. Kids drag and drop blocks of code, snap them together, and watch them work. This is a great option for pre-readers.

  • Tynker Age 6+

    Use either the website or app to let your kids learn coding logic through games. There is a good amount of free content, but some content is paid only.

  • Scratch Age 8+

    This is a personal favourite of my eldest daughter because after creating scripts through coding blocks, kids can share their creations online. Scratch is very robust, but simple to use. It is also totally free, with no ads.

  • Mozilla Thimble Age 10+

    Getting into some traditional coding languages with this one. This moves from block coding to text input. Kids learn HTML, CSS and JavaScript to create and publish their own webpages. It is also totally free, with no ads.

  • Khan Academy Computer Programming Age 12+

    Learn how to program drawings, animations, and games using JavaScript and ProcessingJS, or learn how to create webpages with HTML and CSS. You can share whatever you create, explore what others have created and learn from each other! It is also totally free, with no ads.

  • Codecademy Age 13+

    Know a teen who seriously wants to learn to code or do you want to learn yourself. Interactive lessons for several programming languages offer several skill-level tracks. Totally Free
